Selecting A Good Project Management Diploma

June 17, 2011

Have you been looking into completing a project management diploma?

Many employees do this to advance their own careers. The principal options open to you include doing a specialist course/program, online courses or even attending college in person. This post looks at all of these three options.

To start with, a specialist project management diploma from the likes of the Project Management Institute (PMI) can give you a solid understanding of the variety of skills required to be a project manager (both technical and people management).

Their subjects and modules do not focus on any one industry sector so give you the great flexibility to change careers and apply your skills wherever they are needed. Moreover, the PMI is an international organization so your diploma certificate will be recognized by employers throughout the world.

The internet has opened up the possibilities of easily doing distance-learning with different kinds of online education courses while still working. Web-based seminars, lectures and video feeds allow you to study subjects at your own convenience.

The cost of these courses can also prove to be the cheapest option available here (depending on the choice of college). You do however need to be careful of avoiding scam universities which can still be prevalent in this day and age.

Finally, the choice of attending college (offline, not online) may be the one that most people like the most. A project management diploma taught at college level gives you great opportunities for networking with other students, understanding the subject in a broad & applied sense and even gaining additional modules in business subjects (e.g. building an internet marketing plan, business proposals, etc.).

Some of the better colleges also have diploma courses which can give you concessions towards further MBA or degree programs. The cost of this approach depends completely on the level of renown of the university you choose to go to. Just be warned that lesser-known universities may provide you with certification which will be less readily recognized in other states/overseas.
